Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

Suppose that means they programmed you to feel things. Seems somewhat irresponsible.

[His initial hostility and prickly tone now subsiding, he peers at Data with a slightly more curious air about him.]

So, what do you find enjoyable, then? Getting refueled, having your wires calibrated or whatever? Things to reinforce good behavior?

You misunderstand. I do not possess emotions, and so I cannot enjoy things. Even if that were not the case, I also do not possess a sense of taste.

Why do you believe that would be irresponsible?

[Sometimes--all the time, actually--Constantine is stupid.]

I dunno. Bringing something into the world and consciously choosing to give it the ability to feel things--negative and positive--seems strange. S'like, you didn't even ask if this was something it wanted....

[He trails off. Constantine rubs the back of his neck, looking a bit uncomfortable.]

...Did they give you a choice?

...my father once attempted to give me an emotion chip. Had I asked him not to install it, perhaps he would not have.

[Not that he really knew the man well enough to tell. But he'd like to think he would have, in a totally emotionless manner of course.]

But most beings do not get such a choice.

[Huh. John stops in his tracks, turning back to face Data with a bewildered expression.]

You mean the bloke who made you, right?

[A soft snort. He shakes his head.]

At least he actually listened to you. More than what plenty of other human fathers can speak for.

[Data thinks well of him but let's be honest he suuuuuucked and ten to one he would not have cared]

That was the only time we met, that I can remember.

[At least Data doesn't seem to fussed about it. Constantine falls quiet, rubbing the back of his neck.]

Not long enough to develop daddy issues, I reckon.
