Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[ Regardless of what happens to the food, Alice doesn’t particularly seem to notice or care as she picks at her own plate. She only bothers to look up when he comes in, eyeing Decus as he rushes to grab something before it swaps over. He’s not usually this much of a late sleeper, right? The same thing has been happening the entire time that they’ve been here, she’s realized, and it’s… kind of hard to pick up on why. She has a few ideas, but she hasn’t really bothered to test any of them out… ]

Another late night, I’m going to assume?

[ She pokes her fork at her own shitty eggs. She's actually kind of shocked that she's actually missing the food back at the Vanguard at this point. ]

[ oh god okay he is way too tired if he didn't even notice Alice was there time to snap the fuck out of it ]

Oh, good morning, dear Alice!

[ He almost immediately drops his own plate down on the buffet table, and with something akin to a pirouette picks up a pitcher of from-concentrate orange juice and rushes over to fill her glass!!! ]

It was rather late, yes, but I don't have any regrets about it!

[ ...That's a weird thing to say when she doesn't know what he's doing, isn't it. Oh well. ]

Anyway, is there anything I can get for you? I hope my lateness hasn't been too much of an inconvenience to you.

[ Which it very well may have been if she took notice of his absence... unless ]

She was just kind of too lazy to get up and do it herself, anyway. ] The only thing I'm worried about is something happening to me because you didn't bother to be around to do anything about it.

[ He's not even bothered by the not-caring-about-him part, he's just elated that he so accurately predicted her concerns!! ]

Well, if that's what you're worried about, then you'll be pleased to know that that's what I've been doing with my time! I've been keeping watch outside your door every night after you go to bed to ensure that nothing happens to you while your guard is down!

Oh. Is that all? [ She eats the piece of egg she's been poking at the last few minutes. ] Doesn't seem like that'd do a whole lot of good if it happened to be... mm, the one person I'm sharing a room with, right?

[ Not that they talk much, but Reika hasn't gotten around to mentioning the mild threats quite yet. ]

Right, so I already spoke with Reika about it early this week! She said she wouldn't be stupid enough to attack you while you were locked in a room together where she'd be the only suspect, which seems pretty fair. And she understood that if she did do anything to hurt you, I'd completely wreck her.

I’m glad she’s got the common sense to know that she shouldn’t try anything. [ stops to drink some juice ] And even if she did, she’s barely bigger than I am. I’m more than confident I’d be able to take care of her myself. ♡

[ She opens her mouth like she’s gonna add something else, but she decides against it, opting to go back to her juice. ]

Yes, of course you could!! That's why it's the times when you're asleep and wouldn't be able to react quickly that I'm most concerned about... but it does sound like she's reasonable enough that it probably won't be an issue.

[ hm hm hm it is officially lunchtime now and he's just going to reach back to where he set that pitcher a minute ago to get ready for another refill ]

Has living with her been tolerable so far?

[ OBVIOUSLY HE WOULD MUCH RATHER SHE WAS ROOMING WITH HIM, but he guesses not assigning a guy and a girl to the same room is sort of standard. (Albeit LAME.) ]

It’s actually been a lot more pleasant than I expected. Of course, I’d rather not have to go through the trouble of rooming with anyone, [ COUGH COUGH ] but I could think of several people who would be a lot worse to have to share that bunk bed with.

[ She’s smiling, but she’s staring right at him while she says that. ]

And besides, I think I prefer how things how they are now. The less you stay out of my way, the better.

[ She was way too focused on trying to ignore him as she took her glass again to realize before it was too late, taking a sip of that sweet orange juice and getting the added surprise of Diet Pepsi. ]

Wh - [ a quick glance at what she drank ] watch what you’re pouring, you idiot!

[ She doesn’t even hesitate as she turns back and just yeets the contents right at his face. The glass doesn’t go flying, though. yet ]

Honestly, is it that hard to pay attention?

[ There isn't as big of a reaction to that as there should be, in part because it almost definitely isn't the first time Decus has had a drink thrown in his face.

While he doesn't have a chance to see it before it gets in his eyes, it's easy to tell from the smell and consistency that there's something weird going on with this juice, which is enough to justify an apology, as far as he's concerned. ]

Ah— I'm sorry, Alice! I didn't realize...

[ He trails off, because he doesn't have any idea what happened, actually, and he looks back at the pitcher in confusion once he's wiped his eyes on his sleeve — he's not going to dare to grab one of her napkins now. ]

[ Hang on, why is it— wait, this is that brown soda stuff, right? Is this what he just poured in her glass?? When did this get here, and where the hell did the juice go?

He looks around at the buffet, but there's no orange juice to be found now; now everything is soda and crappy punch and fake margaritas, and the eggs have been replaced with cocktail shrimp. ]

Wait, this was— this was the orange juice before, wasn't it?

[ When did this even happen?? And— aw, man, that plate he'd set down is gone too. He never even got to start on that...

...Despite this totally crazy situation, though, she's not wrong. He should have been watching what he was putting in her glass, because what if someone had switched it out with poison instead of just diet cola??? ]

—Sorry, I'm not trying to make excuses! I promise I'll pay more attention next time.

[ Luckily, the food suddenly changing is enough to distract her for a second. She turns around in her chair, also realizing that, yeah, looks like it's all lunch stuff now. How weird. Even weirder is that when she turns back, her own plate is gone, leaving behind some napkins in the glass still in her hand. ]

She kind of stares at the mostly empty spot on the table for a few seconds, steaming a little bit before... ]

Fine. [ She slams her glass on the table. ] I wasn't hungry anyway.

[ She pushes her chair back and shoots up, giving him a dirty look. ]

For your sake, I hope you do. If this is all it takes for you to slip up, what's going to happen when something actually happens?

[ She grabs the napkins left over and throws those at him before moving to leave. ] And clean yourself up before you get any of that nasty stuff on me.

[ He's about to ask if there's anything else he can get her instead, but it looks like she's just over the whole breakfast thing at this point. ]

Ah... understood, thank you!

[ He awkwardly catches the napkins and does as directed, quickly wiping his face and hair and then dabbing at the spots on his clothes... and then he scrambles to his feet to follow her. ]

And don't worry, I'll definitely be looking out for you when it really matters! As your knight, I'll make sure that no one dares to lay a finger on you!!

[ Just, you know, Diet Pepsi doesn't have fingers. ]
