Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

Majorly. Even so, I won't be eager to view any such sights on future cruises for awhile, providing the Captain doesn't successfully end all of our lives.

I simply thought that seeing said Captain being tossed into the sea, might make for a better view.

I'm glad to know you understand perfectly. Then again, you appear to be a leader, and those who are in such a position would need to know how to do their job well, as well as have their priorities correctly in order. So perhaps it's not too surprising.

Ja, I am a leader. Leviathan's Claw [good luck parsing that one out with his accent!!] is the guild I run, and I do like to think I take good care of my subordinates.

[ He'll say lightly. Maybe they're a little more similar than he thought in that regard...well, anyway. He was a little curious about what Leviathan's Claw was too and it looked like that got answered. But his curiosity didn't end there. ]

What kind of activities does your guild happen to engage in?

We're essentially mercenaries; whatever work needs to be handled, my guild can take care of it. This usually involves things like bodyguard work, though I personally oversee blastia sales.

[...okay, so technically "mercenary work" was the blood alliance, but it's fine no one cares about barbos or his untimely death!!!]

[ So jack-of-all-trades mercenary work. Though it's indeed not unusual to hear of mercenaries to have been hired as bodyguards. ]

...Blastia is some kind of unique material, I'm assuming? I've never heard of anything like that before.

It's a power source. Blastia can work in all sorts of ways - providing us with protection in the form of barriers to keep monsters out of our cities, or even electricity and other such things. Smaller ones can be used to strengthen our own physical abilities, or allow us to cast magic. With blastia, we can fight off monsters on our own - but they're fairly rare and carefully regulated over in the Empire, so obtaining them isn't easy. The guilds certainly do have it better, but not everyone is willing or able to fight, so that's where we come in!

It sounds rather useful. There isn't anything like that on Earth, though there aren't really monsters on Earth either, as far as I know.

[ Someone could argue Stands were monsters, but they really weren't.

Though there's been vampires and shit, but he didn't know jack about that, so. ]

I also have to wonder if a blastia would work on this ship as well.

Blastia can indeed be used to power ships! Though admittedly, a ship this size would require a far larger blastia... It seems more likely that it's running on something else, but there's no real way to know for sure without seeing it myself.

[Sometimes we actually put our giant glowing gemstones in places where they can't be easily broken!! Wild.]

I'll take your word for it, as you are naturally more knowledgeable in this subject than I am.

Not to mention, cruise ships like this aren't uncommon in my world, and they work just fine without some kind of magical object.

We don't have anything quite like this where I'm from. Traveling isn't exactly something people want to do to begin with, so a ship built for entertainment wouldn't really be all that profitable.

[then again we do have the random bathhouse in the middle of goddamn nowhere so like...]

I assume it's more or less because of the monsters. Where I'm from, traveling is relatively normal, and there's even an industry centered around it.

But, I assume there's other forms of entertainment to be had on your world. Though, I'd still be surprised at the lack of casinos, for example.

Ja, precisely. An entire industry centered around it, though... Actually, that does seem like a good idea.

[Not nearly as effective in Terca Lumireis, but considering some of the sights and places there... Yeah, it would be a great idea elsewhere.

What exactly is a casino?

[ Unbelievable...this man had not heard of a casino. Then again, he sounded like he was pretty occupied with running a guild.

Still, though, it's an easy enough explanation to make. ]

A casino is essentially a glorified gambling den, filled with many games to stake a bet on if someone is so inclined. It can be from the usual poker to slot machines. In case you've never heard of such a machine, it's just one where someone can insert money, and hope that the three objects line up to be the same in order to hit a 'jackpot'.

My, I can imagine just how profitable that would be! We don't have anything quite like that, though gambling is a very popular thing among guild members!

It's a rather profitable business.

Also coincidentally he's not like crazy about gambling, but it's something he's done from time to time. ]

Though I know little about guilds other than what you've told me, it makes sense. A deck of cards is easy to bring with you no matter where you go.

Ja, precisely. Though really, they'll bet about anything... And Nordopolica is a different guild city that has a fighting arena where people are encouraged to place bets. A casino would fit right in!
