Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[It was entirely impossible to tell if Zero was or wasn't enjoying himself, what with the mask and all. And it wasn't like he could eat or drink anything for the same reason.]

...For lack of knowing what else of impact one might do, people turn to that which brings them comfort. Strange as it may feel, the logic of it is reasonable.

Of the school, at least. I'm still just a cadet on an extended sub-lightspeed training exercise. I was enrolled in Basion Tactical Training School. Before.

...You're young for a soldier. Is that standard in your world?

The war's been going on for a long time. A lot of people are expected to enlist, and military schools run the same as regular ones. It isn't like that for you?

Yes, and no. I know of soldiers and Knightmare pilots that are your age, but the majority I have encountered are at least several years older. Britannia has been a major military power for many years now--following the Second Pacific War, essentially any conflict against them is a losing battle from the outset on paper.

I see. A Knightmare -- that sounds like it's like a Strain, but it's probably not built for space combat, from what you've said.

...No. Knightmare Frames are terrestrial humanoid war machines, each meant to be utilized by a single pilot.

I see. A Strain is something like that, too. Well, it looks humanoid, except for the pointed limbs, and there's one pilot, connecting to it with their Mimic. There are smaller, different units called Gambees, too, but they can't do much, so they're usually backup in a battery around a ship or important target. They're still important in that anyone can pilot a Gambee, even if they can't use a Strain.

...sorry. I'm not used to having to explain these things.

I know no one here can be from my universe, but it's still odd to see. It's the same for you, isn't it? When we first appeared, you expected to be a household name.

I did, indeed. The work of the Black Knights is no small secret in my world, or at the very least it's common knowledge throughout Japan and well known among the Britannian military.

[Right, "Leader of the Black Knights." It must be some elite squad.]

I don't know what to think of it. It's not the same as hiding who you are from people who wouldn't understand -- it's just that no one has the context to understand. Except the Captain, not that he divulges anything.

I suppose you make a valid point. I confess that initially I presumed this was a kidnapping orchestrated by Britannia somehow, but it's abundantly clear the truth is far more complex and those among us neither know nor care anything for my role personally.

[Although something about what Sara said seemed to give him some kind of pause...remarking about hiding who you are to a man in a mask was probably meaningful somehow.]

I would have assumed the same thing, but I know Deague doesn't do things like this. When they want something, they rip everything in their path apart until they get it. And he -- ...you're right. I don't know what to think of it.
