Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Smooth jazz. It's a bastardization, if you ask me. Real jazz, the stuff I grew up hearing, is a thousand times better.

It's the same thing the Professor used to talk to us. Right?

Hm? Oh, the television?

[Alice smiles, realizing her mistake, and reaches forward to flip through the channels, the rest of which are just static.]

It's a display that can show all kinds of things. Like...plays, or speeches, or dramatic presentations. [laughs!] It's usually much better than this!

[bolderfell]

[Wow, that noise is terrible. Why does everything here make such awful noises? Therion rubs the corners of his eyes.]

That Anna girl said there wasn't any magic here. So how...?

[precognit]

Magic? [Alice laughs.] No, no, nothing like that. It's electricity. The same force that lights this place up, and unlocks our bedroom doors. It's like...if you took lightning and harnessed its power.

[bolderfell]

...You're saying it isn't magic, but it still sounds like something scholars came up with--harnessing the world's forces for their own purposes. What's the difference?

[precognit]

Well...you're not wrong. It's a fine distinction. But it's based in science.

[bolderfell]

They're not real? They're made up, like a play.

It's called Orsterra. Closest things we have to putting lightning in a music box are thunder spells.

[Alice has to giggle at the comparison.]

Okay, so magic is real where you're from. That must be kind of neat, right?

It's just the way it is. Most people have an affinity for one kind of magic or another.

Are you from this world, then? The one without magic?

[precognit]

So it's commonplace. Just like this— [she points at the television] is common in mine.

[She glances around for a moment, and then shrugs.]

As far as I can tell. This world seems like it's a little bit more advanced, though, tech-wise.

It's clearly beyond mine.

[He's in over his head figuratively AND literally, here in their lovely abode at the bottom of the ocean.]

...Huh. I didn't think of that. If I'm from somewhere ahead of you, there's a distinct possibility someone else is from somewhere ahead of both of us.

That... Anna girl, maybe. She said something about the devices they gave us being old.
