WEEK 1
Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...
The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
FRIDAY | SATURDAY
[ ooc: Welcome to Peace Week! Enjoy it while it lasts. Remember, office hours for The Professor's Assistant are over here if you're interested, while regains can be deposited over here! ]

[ She says it like it's no big deal, which... honestly, it isn't for her. She likes taking care of people, even if it's just a meal.
... though. Ah. ]
What did she like to make most?
no subject
[ She's a little sheepish to talk about it. Every time she tried to return the favor, it'd usually come out poorly, or take over twice as long... ]
But in any event, that's going way back. I haven't had Lana's cooking in forever, but I always think of her food whenever it comes to home-cooked meals.

[ And it sounds like Ema has some seriously fond memories of it. She can relate; when she was younger and far too small to be allowed in the kitchen, Noah was the one to cook for her. Looking back... it's a wonder he had time to do that between raising her, working, and going to school. ]
My brother was like that, too. He had a lot on his plate, but... always made sure I had food on mine. He always put a lot of love into whatever he made... just like with your sister, it sounds like?
no subject
[ She's proven that time and again, too. There probably isn't a day that goes by where Ema doesn't think about her sister, and everything she's done for her. ]
But I'm sure if I said that to her, she'd just say it was nothing special, or that I was just trying to butter her up for one reason or another. Maybe something like, "Alright, Ema, what do you want this time," you know? I do think you're right, though. Even if the food's something as basic as some meat and a bit of cheese between two slices of bread, it all depends on who you're eating it with, I think.
no subject
[ There's a lot of love there... and that's something Mira can very much relate to. ]
Mm. And even if something basic would be just fine... I think here no one would blame us for indulging a little. If we're going to be here a while, best to make it as pleasant as possible.
[ Because everything else sure sucks. ]

[ She counts off her fingers-- ]
Good food, good laughs, and good company. ...Okay, maybe I can't back that right up with research, but I do think those things are all important to have. At all of the lowest points in my life, what got me through were people that I trusted, and people that I learned to trust. Not just Lana, either. I wouldn't be where I am if it weren't for them.
...Of course, chocolate was also a big help, but that goes without saying.

She falls quiet, and Ema wouldn't be blamed for mistaking it for just a thoughtful silence. Because she sure is thinking a lot--maybe too much. She's well aware that the way she'd grown up hadn't been exactly normal. She'd figured that out long, long ago... But now?
She's stunningly aware of how upsetting it might be. ]
... You do seem like the type of person who can make a lot of friends. [ That's what she decides on, in the end, to say. Her voice is warm when she does. ] And even in spite of the circumstances... I think there won't be a shortage of good company.
And chocolate. There's the good food, too.

[ She brings a finger to her chin as she mulls that over... ]
But for a long while, it was really just me and Lana, and it took a pretty big fiasco to change that. I won't bog you down with the details of that story, but after that, things really started to turn around. Some good ways, some not-so-good...but anyway, the reason I'm telling you that is, I don't want you to think that you're not the type of person who can make friends, too, because for a while, I definitely wasn't. It doesn't need to be a lot of them, either...what's way more important is that they push you to be better, in my opinion.
no subject
... I see why you're in forensics. You're very observant. [ She pauses. ] It's been just my brother and me, for a very long time... so this is all new to me. [ She's very much not used to talking with so many people, at the very least. ] I think... I've gotten a good start here, at least. It might not be the most ideal circumstances, but...
no subject
[ The smile on her face is a soft one, at least. Like she said, she's been there. ]
And for the record, I think you're doing a pretty good job myself, especially for someone new to this. It probably helps that we're all just a bit out of our comfort zone...even putting that aside, though, I would already consider you to be "good company." Or, what, do you think I just go around blabbing about my highly confidential secret snack pockets to everyone?
no subject
That's true. Or--I hope you wouldn't go revealing very secret snack pockets to everyone, if they're as good as you say they are. [ She returns the smile. ] And you know... it's kind of hard to argue with you at all. You're very convincing.
no subject
[ The admiration in her voice is practically visible. ]
But I'd like to think I make for a pretty okay listener, too. I mean, scientifically speaking, the human body has two ears and one mouth because listening is twice as important as talking is.
[ That also sounds like pseudo-science-- ]
So if you're struggling with any of this stuff, I'd be glad to hear you out, is what I'm saying.
no subject
[ She smiles... and then nods. Slowly, but it's still acknowledgment. ]
... I'm not really used to... talking about things I'm struggling with, but I'll keep it in mind. As long as you do the same. I might not be the best at advice, but... I'm very good at listening.
no subject
[ If that's not a thing, it certainly is now. ]
I may have to make good on that sometime, but for now, the big thing I'm struggling with is what I'm gonna wind up getting for lunch before getting back to it. Got any suggestions?
no subject
[ At Ema's question, though, she thinks for a moment. ]
Hmmm... it depends on what your preferences are. Though, it might be easier to ask what you don't like, in some cases.
