WEEK 1
Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...
The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

And by plenty to distract himself with, I mean he's mostly been living at the library these past couple days. Really, one can find him with pile after pile of books, sitting at one of the tables and reading them cover to cover to pass the time. It's almost nostalgic; Lif remembers passing the time like this back when he was alive, though he certainly never had this much time to devote to it. Save for various needs, he's mostly going to be in here if anyone wants to bug him. (Or remind him to eat, sometimes he gets a little too into a book and he hears his stomach and is like "surely it can wait a few minutes, i'm almost done with this book" and then he...doesn't do that...)
Of course, there will be some point at the afternoon that he takes a break from the near constant reading he's been doing; he can be seen in the dining room, eating lunch--he'll definitely acknowledge anyone who comes by with a nod of the head before going back to eating, but he won't mind company if anyone wants to offer it. It looks like he's just got some kind of vegetable soup and some black coffee going on, lunch-wise.
At another point in the afternoon, though, Lif can be found in the fitness room, apparently having decided that today's the day he's at least gonna try to stop avoiding any and all technology. It goes well for the more simple things; while he looks like he's never thrown a punch in his life on the sandbags, he is getting pretty into it and seems to be getting a little better as time goes on. (The perils of being a Fire Emblem character, you never get unarmed training.)
But of course, the problems come later, when Lif tries to mess with one of the treadmills; it seems like a simple enough process when he turns it on and starts walking, and honestly, it's pretty good for getting out any nervous energy that he totally doesn't have, and it goes well for a little while! ...Until Lif tries to set it faster, clearly underestimating just how fast it can go and--
Well, he falls flat on his face with a groan. Technology: 2. Lif: 0.
Once that's taken care of, though, it's back to the library for the evening, though he's decidedly more miffed as he reads this time. Don't be such a big baby Lif, gods.]

[Anna raises her eyebrows, hanging back.]

Yes, really. I've--simply never used such a machine. That's all.
[please let him have some of his dignity]

[And in his case, try to make sense of.]
Did you come in here to use any of this?
[...With all due respect, you don't look like someone who would be in her typically.]

no subject
If you wish to do so, by all means. I'm certainly not going to stop you, whether you choose to or not.
[...]
I'll...try not to make such a disturbance, in any case.
[He's gonna conquer his ineptitude over machines, goddammit.]

dining room
Mind a lunch neighbor?
[He's already grabbed a seat.]
no subject
By all means. I can't say I mind the company, even if I don't typically seek it out.
[...It's not like he expects people to, honestly, given his state of being.]
no subject
You and me both. Sometimes the company is nice, other times...
[Shrugs and takes his seat.]
Not so nice. Gotta learn when to seek it out.
no subject
That is true. I can't say I've been in the presence of particularly polite company in quite some time. Most of them tend to be distant at best, and at worst? Actively malicious.
[Mostly because they're all kinda undead over there.]
But I imagine it is much the same for you, considering your line of work.
[Lif doesn't sound judgmental, at any rate; he's worked with plenty of thieves back in Askr, and they're pretty good at getting into places they're not supposed to.]
no subject
And I was just fighting for my life. Nice to have even a little friendlier faces around here.
[Takes a bite. mmm underwater food]
You've heard of me? [ah, right] From that little gizmo we all have, of course.
no subject
[Because even if you don't get familiar with them, they're gonna get familiar with you.]
It's simply for the best.
I take it you've read up on most of us, in kind? Or have you not?
library
Starvation's a slow and shitty way to go.

Lif's look instantly shoots over to Nova when she speaks up and. Ah. He really did let himself get distracted, didn't he?]
It is. You won't get any disagreement from me. And...thanks.
[He's gonna check the apple over because he's exactly that paranoid, but let him just. Put the book down for a second and eat, holy shit--]
My apologies for any disturbance. I intended to get something to eat once I finished the book I was reading.

[Nova's not really a "sit down and relax" kind of person. Like, she's sitting here right now, in this moment, but that's because she's meticulously copying information from some of the numerous marine biology books into her own personal notes. It's easier to do when she can sit and cross-reference between multiple books.]
no subject
[He'd much rather be in here than in most places in the building, really, because here he can almost pretend that this place is...you know, normal.
But still, Nova's books do get Lif to tip his head towards them.]
What are you researching, if I may?
[He'll eat the apple while Nova talks, he promises.]
no subject
[She shuffles some of the books around, opening a new one and flipping through it.]
Figure I'm the closest thing to a marine biologist here, so I might as well do what I'm good at.
no subject
That's not a bad plan in the slightest. Have you found any interesting observations yet?
no subject
[She laughs, mostly at the absurdity of a situation where the word "sharknado" is nonsense again. An unthinkable thing, the stuff of dumb monster movies on terrible cable TV channels.]
I know what ocean we're in, more or less, and I'm trying narrow it down more than "the largest ocean on the hunk of rock we call Earth."
no subject
You know what? No. Lif's not questioning this today. There are a lot of things he could ask but sometimes you just. Gotta look deep inside yourself and know what things to ask.]
It's good that one can glean a basic idea of that much, then. The land where I came from is land-locked, so I'm not nearly as familiar with the native sea-life as those who live near it; trade routes where certain fish would come from are about all I know.
Would a second set of eyes be beneficial to you?
[He may not know shit but he's seen plenty of fish here, and it can't be that hard, can it?]
no subject
[Also she's mildly afraid of large fish swimming too close by because she has shark-related PTSD but she'd rather not say that she's in the library because she hates seeing the ocean.]
