Fourth Trial
[ After the evidence (and what a large batch of evidence it is, this time) has been gathered up, after actually patiently waiting a longer time than usual to make sure everything's been grabbed, the speakers over New Rapture crackle to life. ]
Time's up, everyone. You know where to go.
[ The lower number of bathyspheres, as you descend, is starting to become really notable, isn't it? The descent is the same as ever, lower and lower into the sea. The bioluminescence of those slugs on the ocean floor is almost brighter today, somehow, and some of them have even crawled up the cliff face around you as you pass them.
The dome approaches, slowly as ever, gleaming red in the darkness. The bathyspheres land in a row, doors opening one by one to reveal the familiar sight of the trial room, three more podiums now darkened. ]
Take your places, ladies and gentlemen. You've got a doozy of a situation to discuss. Ass Man and Silver Fox are dead. You know what happens if you can't figure out whodunnit.
[ Welcome to your fourth trial. ]

I investigated the area near the entrance of the dark ride, where... Dandy was found. The water was drained, something that was operated by a control panel near the entrance. The lights were turned on as well, also from the same control panel. It seemed simple enough to use and showed no signs of anything noteworthy. [Like say, being smashed.]
I also found one of the fake rocks was moved. It seemed to have been purposefully moved rather than accidentally disturbed, because I found a knife underneath it.
[And here it is! If anyone wants to take a closer look at it, feel free to assume he passes it around.]
It's one of the knives from the vending machine. It's bent and damaged. It looks as if it might have come into contact with something.
[The exact mod wording on that is here, so anyone else can feel free to pick up on this! Rossiu doesn't know enough about knives or stabbing to get this.]

cw blood, implications of achilles tendon harm, gore maybe?
[ But okay, since this is an evidence toplevel, he's going to continue! ]
Also, he had a quite impressive amount of blood. I did not investigate the body, but it was all over the dark ride. Going forward from where he was, there was this big bloody smear on the left wall. About this high [ he's indicating it relative to himself ], might have been a hand? And that shit just kept going almost to the exit. Then, like, midway down the track, there was a splatter of it that looked like... eh. You know how when you get an artery, and then it's like...
[ oh Jesus Christ he's miming an arterial spurt and making his own sound effects]
But not as bad as it could be, you know, considering. Was right next to a message someone carved into the concrete. It said "we are still here", but all in capitals, right under where the water would be.
Then, you know the little church scene in there, at the center of the ride? It looks like Dandy knocked one of the cutouts over, with his face, and right to that there was another big pool of blood. More spurting, quite disgusting, really. Then, even further along, he spilt those prayer beads he was wearing all over the ground. A little bloody, but nothing too crazy. And the fucking smear just kept going almost to the exit.
Oh! Also there was a knife just lying around. [ AND HE JUST PULLS IT OUT ] As you can see, it is clean, so, not sure how that connects.
... I think that is everything?
[ And you all can connect the dots from here, because he can't connect shit! ]

[How does she word this.]
He was, like, a god of some sort? We had the same sort of deal going on, but I think his was more like reincarnation than mine. He seemed to have some kind of memory problem and I thought it was like mine, just too much info all the time, but I think it was a little different.

Would anyone mind explaining what actually happened? All we know is that we were disturbed by a great deal of noise and Zinda and the others went tearing off towards it.

He takes a deep breath, in and out. He decided, last week, that he was going to hold it together from then on. Just push through the pain until it's over - that's the best he can do right now. So he'll keep on doing it. His tone is steady and absent, like someone narrating something that isn't quite real, and certainly not happening to them.]
Someone burned some clothes in the storage room. They doused them in gasoline first, so they were completely destroyed. No telling what they were or what they looked like - there was just some fiber remnants left. There was also this bag, and a matchbox.
[He'll put them both on the podium. The backpack is a generic one from the department store, slightly burnt and clearly empty, and the matchbook is...well, just a matchbook.]

[Considering the last few cases, that sure would be the smart move.]

ice cream parlor, the parlorening
also here’s the link to her investigation, if you want to look back yourself. ]
Right.
[ Once she gets to her spot, Hild sighs. There’s a lot to get through. ]
Floyd and I managed to break our way into the ice cream parlor, where the door was jammed with a door under the handle. The chair itself broke after we got through, but one of the legs had some blood on it.
The door also had some kind of trap set up, with a tripwire made of rope going across it that set off when the door opened. This one led to the fire extinguisher that was hanging from the ceiling.
There were also frayed wires running under the tables. Not connected to anything, but clearly put there on purpose with open wires. Talk about a fire hazard.
Someone seems to be a fan of tripwires, because there was a second one running across part of the parlor, with this one involving the fan.
I also found a lighter [ she pulls it out (don’t ask from where), it’s pretty melted to hell ] and a knife block with blood on it.
The strangest part of the scene was someone was messing with the airflow in the parlor. When we came in it was rather stale and admittedly hard to breathe, but it cleared up well enough with the door open. Someone had managed to attach pillows to all the air ducts in effort to stifle the air. Strange, isn’t it?
ice cream parlor, the parlorening…2!
[Anyway…there’s a lot to get through and you can tell he’s trying so hard to get it in order.]
Something definitely went kaboom in there - place looked like there was an explosion around the counter. Soot, melted junk, et cetera. You get the deal. Not a clue what did it, but there was this microwave on the counter. With a thingy [He doesn’t know what a sotoba is] jammed in the handle. Prolly ‘cause it electrocuted me when I touched it.
[Said very casually.]
Nothing in it though. One of the tripwires Hild mentioned was on the on/off switch of the fan, which had a bowl of white baking stuff in it. Emphasis on the ‘had’, ‘cause it had all been blown around the place.
Is that it? I think that’s it.

ice cream parlor 3: the jukebox strikes back
[ Floyd nods in agreement to all of what Hild said, all the while putting the evidence he found down on his podium. Yeah- he didn't really change his clothes before the trial, so he looks a mess still. ]
While Lane Snapper [ Hild's fishsona unlocked! ] and Flying Fish were looking at the room, I looked at Barracuda's body...
[ His jaw tightens as he figures out how to phrase it. ]
He was stuck under the jukebox when I found him, so I moved it outta the way to get a better look. He had blunt force trauma to the back of his head, enough to break his skull but not enough to draw blood. He also had a real deep stab wound in the back of his neck.
[ He holds up the bloody knife in a cloth. ]
I'm pretty sure this is what did that. Found it on the floor between the cutlery counter and Barracuda's body. Also, his eyes were glowing green, even after he was dead? I dunno what's up with that.
I also found this wooden sotoba thing, and it kinda looked like he was reaching for it? There's blood and flour on it. Some sort of weird explosion happened and there was a bunch of flour near the other counter... And also a handmade lever near it too? It was part of the counter that got blasted off.

Dandy's Body Report -- Content Warnings: Torture, Gore, Achilles Tendon Content, Fingers Content
[Aiba displays the usual blue figure she uses for corpse markings, but instead of showing the injuries like usual she highlights each area]
The cause of death was a removal of the heart. Dandy's ribcage was breached forcefully, without any sawing to the bones. [Given she named this the cause of death...yeah, this definitely was done while he was still alive]
There are also a number of wounds and injuries that were done not with the purpose of killing him, but to either restrain him or... [Torture him] The tendons on the lower parts of the legs, known as the Achilles tendon, were both cut with the same weapon. However this did not happen where the body was found, as there was not enough blood under these injuries.
In addition, his right hand has suffered extensive damage. The fingers of this hand are broken, result of someone repeatedly stomping on them. There's also a gash on the palm, going deep enough it breaches the other side of the hand.
Finally, his chest and limbs show signs of having been slashed with a bladed weapon. It's safe to say all these injuries were made with the purpose of inflicting pain no him.
[...uf, this was rough to say. Aiba's projection closes her eyes and shakes her head]
It's unspeakably awful.

[Zinda is… not herself right now. She might try and crack a joke to two, but for the most part, she is calculated and to the point.]
He was bound by rope around his wrists. I took a look at the knots, and they weren’t sloppy. Seemed pretty professionally done. Dandy’s wrists were… what you’d expect. Had rope burns. And then…
Found this on the ground not too far away. [Zinda places the… weird box shaped thing on her podium.] Anyone know what the hell it is? Looks like someone kept stickin sharp things into it.

Guys, please, I think I have actually discovered something important here! Let us assume that Dandy was incapacitated when he was cut down by the little church. Then he tries crawling away, but the killer follows him — stomps on his left hand, and maybe that is where the beads go everywhere — and then they carried him back to where he was tied up. If he was being carried over someone's shoulder, would that not explain the long smear on the left wall? Might be a little awkward if his right hand was not facing it, but it could be done, especially if he was very hard to kill. If that is true, it would narrow down our possible killers very much!
[ Also, he's still in the pool! This does not appear to bother him! ]
It would have to be someone capable of carrying Dandy, and probably someone tall? [ waving a hand ] As I said, the mark was, like, this high.
no subject
[Carrying someone in a piggyback is easier than doing it bridal style or throwing someone over your shoulder like a potato sack, is what she means. If he indeed was carried over the shoulder like Nandor proposed, it could narrow things down quite a bit]

cw torturemurder and gore discussion
[let's get back on track.]
Two people are, in fact, dead, and considerably more people will be dead if we do not get back on track. Dandy was killed in an extremely gory and disturbing way that may have been the result of sadism, his unique biology making him extremely difficult to kill, or both. He was likely carried from where he was incapacitated by someone tall and strong enough to do so, and the killer needed to remove... whatever that cube is in his chest that contains his memories and his emotions. There was a blunted knife found underneath a fake rock, which is likely related.
Undertaker, meanwhile, seems to have been killed through some convoluted series of events that I cannot even begin to describe. I think we have barely even discussed what happened with him, actually. I find myself doubting that the two cases are related, but who truly knows, given that we have been off track for some time now.

Which is why she begins:]
I recall Forrest saying you should keep an eye on me, regarding the incident in the ice cream parlor. Well then, there are plenty of points about why I cannot be the culprit here. Allow me to elaborate.
[Even though she's in this situation, Aiba's voice continues as usual]
Undertaker suffered many injuries, according to the testimonies here. First and foremost, and something I have to lie down right now, is that I obey the Three Laws of Robotics. First one being that I cannot bring harm to a person. If you have any ideas of me stabbing anyone, then forget about them.
This applies to other potentially mortal wounds too -- such as for example, bludgeoning. I can't take an object and hit anybody with it, even if it's by throwing them, as Misfire remembered.
[Looks like this is it. Aiba refuses to confess. Instead, it seems she's...trying to form a rebuttal, point by point]

I saw what you did last week. And I have a pretty good idea of how this'll go this time. I'm the type of person who prepares for everything, you know?
[ He reaches down into his boots and pulls out a knife in one one hand, a dagger in the other. ]
I've said it over and over again, I'm a mage not a warrior or an assassin. But only idiots leave themselves completely defenseless. And only idiots walk to their deaths and then try to have a change of heart? Not that he really had a heart, actually.

[Aiba sighs]
A robot must protect its own existence. As much as I would have preferred to confess right away, such an action would guarantee my demise. If...everyone cleared everything up enough for me to accept it, I could finally free myself of that law. After all, nothing I say now will have you all voting for me as its consequence.
I can say it now:
I murdered Undertaker in the ice cream parlor. This happened on Thursday night, or early Friday, shortly after midnight. Therefore, Undertaker cannot have murdered Dandy.

Thank you for confessing. I'm guessing it was for the motive?

EXECUTIONS
Correct on both counts. Good job, gang. You found your guilty parties. Let's get to the fun part.
EXECUTION - [This Space Intentionally Left Blank]
Lights up on Seo Dawon, perhaps the less surprising of the two currently on the chopping block. He’s in a space that… well, it would be beautiful, wouldn’t it, if it weren’t about to be the site of an execution? Perhaps it’s just a good place to be executed. All swirling purple and blue, with pricks of light like stars swirling through it.
Welcome to the void. Seo Dawon is very familiar with the void.
Seo Dawon does not like, it seems, the void.
He lashes out, and magic sparks around his hands. Great and powerful magic, cast by a great and powerful mage. And he is wonderful in that power, isn’t he? Everything he said he could be and more?
He laughs, testing it out. It works as intended, spiraling around him in the space. But is it worth anything, in a place like this? When it cannot find the edges of his prison to destroy them?
There’s something light, musical, in the distance. It’s hard to tell what it is.
Mayor Fontaine’s voice speaks out over the din. ]
Enjoying yourself, Seo Dawon?
[ The magic intensifies. The man’s response is voided by the noise. ]
Let’s test out your abilities, shall we?
[ There’s a hum, and very suddenly Seo Dawon is not alone in the void. ]
Two birds, one stone. Get your revenge and I’ll let you go.
[ It doesn’t take more convincing than that. Seo Dawon snarls - whether this man is real or not, does it matter? What matters more than even the slightest chance at vengeance?
He reaches out to cast, to destroy Bae Jaemin once and for all.
...
Failed to Cast.
The message hovers there. Seo Dawon stares at it, incredulous. Who wouldn’t be, in a situation like this?
Another spell, pure magic energy, rips through the notification from the other side, slamming right through Seo Dawon’s chest. ]
Well, if you ain’t up to the task…
[ The executioner lowers his hand. The murderer slumps to his knees. The void sings silently.
Seo Dawon bursts into another shape, of all things, bigger against the abyss, rising up with one final scream despite the hole in him…
And he’s gone. Seo Dawon is dead. ]
