Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[Reika doesn't linger in her shared cabin. Her roommate didn't seem like a sociable person but that's alright. It would be more suspicious if Alice was.

In the morning at the Buffet buffet Reika lingers near the edge of the room watching over the food and her fellow passengers stream in. She watches with her arms crossed. If approached she'll simply say,]

Strange that our Captain decided to continue the act, don't you think?

[It's said seriously but there's no worry in her voice. She doesn't seem to get anything from the buffet this morning, either, but she can be seen making a quick breakfast of vending machine snacks.

Later, she's in the library at a table. In front of her is a spread of the non-fiction books. Wars, books on the ocean? It doesn't seem to matter. Some are already beside her as she finishes them. It's pointless to actually trying to escape so soon so for now she's taking the strategy of waiting.

About dinner time she pushes the books back into the library shelves. There's a book she's going to just slip out of library's thriller section, though. Don't mind her as she's going to head to the pool to more slowly read until she figures she better get back to her cabin before Alice does.]

Jimmy Buffet's Seafood Extravaganza

I mean...as long as he doesn't kill us all immediately!

[Filbo chuckles, a bit weary. Talking about the threat over their heads is quite draining, and the day has gotten started. It just is an emotional punch every time he thinks about it]

But as long as we're alive, we can do something about it. It's not over.

That's true.

[She sighs softly. Not dying is always a good thing in her book but she glances at him.]

Nothing's set in stone yet. I'm sorry that I brought it up.

[ahelpingpaw]

Hey you don't have to apologize for it. It's not like I wouldn't be thinking about it if you hadn't mentioned it. Just being here is...

[Is making him think pretty much the entire day about the possibility someone will get murdered. He doesn't think he'd be a target, but he's a bit on pins and needles about finding out someone died somewhere in the ship]

I think that's how he wants us to feel.

[She's not surprised but Reika would have preferred not to have been right. Ending up on a cruise ship for murder wasn't her idea of a good weekend, honestly.]

I'm sure we're all feeling a bit tense right now.

[ahelpingpaw]

But even though we're in trouble that's no reason to be downcast! We all have each other. We know nothing about each other and not everyone will get along, but before long there should be some unity.

[Enough to see there's no reason to kill. Apparently Filbo is the idealistic sort, yeah]

Call it a habit. [She says but there's a smile to her face at least?] You're right, though. We don't know anything bad will happen for certain.

...well, I guess that'll depend on the Captain's mood? If he loses his patience then...

[Then maybe he will get those flamethrowers fixed, just saying]

I doubt the Captain is going to change his mind about anything, but if he can be kept calm somehow then we'll gain enough time to...think of something to do?

[But it's hard to when all the Captain seems to care about is murder. Filbo is not killing someone just to appease the Captain]

Any ideas about how to keep him appeased?

That all depends on what the aim of whatever this is.

[She has plenty of ideas but just from what she's gathered Filbo won't like those ideas so she shakes her head.]

Again, I don't know what he actually wants.

[It's nearing dinnertime when Yeager enters the library, nodding at Reika in greeting before wandering off to look through the selection. He doesn't seem to be interested in anything in particular, mostly just browsing. He'll speak up not long afterwards, though.]

My, what a dreadful selection... Is this really all they have to offer?

[She glances up from some book on ocean currents that she finishes with a sigh.]

Sadly. You'd think there would be at least something more interesting--then again, it seems our dear Captain probably didn't care enough to give us anything resembling a proper library.

I suppose I can see some merit in that, but these are all so dull...

[He picks out a book on sealife and flips through it. Where are all the monsters???]

Perhaps he thinks boredom will get us to kill one another as per those ridiculous rules.

Murder has happened because of less.

[She agrees.]

Still, I suppose he's given us plenty to start a fire.

Simply bringing us here is enough. I'm a bit surprised no one's snapped yet.

So am I, honestly. He even gave us convenient alibis.

Do you mean sharing a room with someone else?

[ Oh, hey. Decus had been planning to wave Reika down for a quick talk this morning anyway, so she saved him the trouble of finding her. ]

Mm... I still don't think I buy that killing us all at once was ever really the plan, but I don't know what the point of all this is either.

[ But that's not actually something he's interested in talking to her about right now when he could be asking her the important questions: ]

Did Alice seem to sleep all right last night?

[leaveittomother]

He did seem disappointed.

[She was curious about that, honestly, but that could be saved for another day. Reika tilts her head.]

Hm? I think so. We didn't really talk. I greeted her and then she stole the top bunk. [Reika shrugs with a slight giggle.] I fell asleep quickly so I don't know how well she slept but she seemed to be in a similar mood.

[ YEAH ALICE SURE IS A TOP... ]

That's good. [ There's a slight relieved smile at that. ] If it ever does seem like anything's up, though, can you let me know? She probably wouldn't tell me if there was.

[Hey if it makes her happy!]

Of course. She's a bit hard to read but if I see anything out of the ordinary, you'll be the first to know. [If only because it'd annoy the hell out of her roommate and that sounds amusing.]

Thanks.

[ It's genuine gratitude, at least, but... the reality is that as long as they're here, Reika is going to have access he doesn't; and as much effort as he's putting into protecting Alice from any potential murderers outside her door, there's much less he'd be able to do in the event of an inside threat. ]

...This probably goes without saying, but... I really hope I can trust you not to do anything to hurt her. For your sake, too.

[Reika wasn't a moral woman especially when it came to murder. Yet, there was something important about killing that she found important. Sincerity.

Maybe not a lack of deception--]

She probably could overpower me, don't worry. I'm not going to try to assault her in our room--I'd be the first suspect, anyway. If nothing else, if I did hurt her I'd probably not be able to fight you as well. I'd say you could trust me but actions will speak stronger than any words could.

[thisaroma]

[ ...Well. She's not wrong that it would be pretty damn obvious who the culprit was if anything happened to Alice while she was inside with her and he was guarding the outside — and she's also not wrong that he would completely destroy her if she did hurt Alice — so he guesses he can live with that. ]

...Yeah. That's fair.

[ He nods. ]

Then I will for now, so... just make sure you don't give me a reason to stop.
