Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

The only problem I can think of is what sort of magic it could be— I don't think it works the same way between our worlds, and it might not even work the same here!

Where I'm from, a human has to make a pact with a malak to use artes. And even then, he or she only has access to the element of the malak they've made a pact with.

Take me, for instance, I'm a wind malak.

What's the source of your power, is it inborn? Trained?

You're born a mage. It might not show up until you're older though.

The more people who can detect any strange magic around here, the better.

I can't detect anything right now. It's like I used up all my magic and I'm waiting for it to replenish.

Except in my case, it's more alarming because my artes don't really go away. My body is... magic. More or less.

I'm a malak; an earth spirit.

It's not good or bad, it just 'is.'

My gods don't demand human sacrifices like this. So this isn't Finnish magic. Maybe it's Norweigan, they're weird.

Uh-huh. Now, does "like this" mean "ever", or is it more of a "we use this ceremonial dagger" thing?

I mean they wouldn't say to kill someone in a complicated ritual. If they want someone dead, they would do it themselves. Sacrifices to the gods are things like burning effigies and presenting animal bones for prayers.
