Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[That gets another smile from Adeline. She stands up to go find a few more of her own cards, but circles back after a while once Flyan's done.] How was that one? I have to admit, I always find those kinds of stories more interesting than the ones with just humans...

[She's just been here riveted by an underwater romance, it's incredible.]

This one was - amazing, I...the description of the underwater kingdom was so rich, it felt as if I was truly there! And the plight of the couple pulls at one's heartstrings!

[Flayn wants a copy to bring back home!!!]

It really does, doesn't it? The author builds a whole world for them to inhabit, one you can feel is almost real.

[Flayn lets out a soft sigh of longing.]

If only such a place were real, I would love to go there myself.

I've gone deeper than most people can by themselves, but sadly I've never seen an underwater kingdom like that. [She gestures lightly at the gills on her neck.] Perhaps one day someone will found one, though. [There's a lot more amphibious people walking around now, after all.]

You have truly gone so deeply into the ocean?

I have, with some guidance. It is quite dark down there, after all, so I had Nemo to light the way.

What were you doing down there to begin with? Was there something you were looking for?

Not precisely-it was more the simple desire to explore. I wanted to know more about just what was down there, and see it for myself without a wall in the way.

That is most incredible! I wish we could do that where I am from...

[She wants to be where the fish are!!! Let's Little Mermaid 2 this binch!]

Well, there are ways to do so without going through all the modifications I have, though in most cases you wouldn't be able to go as deep, or wouldn't be able to interact as readily with what you found.

That would be fine! Even a start into the depths would be exhilirating.

We could start you out with a trip on a submarine. You wouldn't need any special expertise for that, since someone would steer it while you simply watched.

A sub-marine...

[She gets the concept, but she can't really imagine what it would look like?]

Well...there might be an image in one of these books. It might not be completely accurate to the modern design, but I could show you the basic idea. [Adeline stands up, turning towards the stacks and glancing to see if Flayn wants to follow.]

[Well...it takes a bit of hunting through the romance books, but...actually, oh hey here's a romance book that takes place on a submarine!]

Ah, here's an example. [She'll just hold up the cover to demonstrate. There's even an interior shot as well of the leads staring romantically out a porthole.]

[How unusual! It looks to be made of metal, just like this ship! But it is underneath the water completely! She marvels at the illustration.]

How do they have enough air to breathe...?

They usually have tanks of air attached, that are much more compressed and can release it as needed. Though there's been studies done towards extracting oxygen from the surrounding water as well.

They want to take air out of the water...?

[She nods, pulling a notebook out of a lab pocket to sketch out some molecules.] Everything's made out of molecules at the most basic level. If you break down water in the right way, you actually get oxygen-that's the breathable air-and hydrogen. The problem is how to separate them properly, and how to dispose of the hydrogen without it exploding.

Exploding? That's - is that not dangerous? If the sub-marine exploded below the water, the people inside would not survive!

[Molecules sound fake though, but okay.]

It certainly would be. Which is why they're testing out those methods above the water, where the explosions can be controlled and contained if they happen.

[Containing an explosion still sounds very dangerous.]

Goodness, there is a lot that goes into this sort of science! I do not think I could wrap my head around it all even if I were to study it for the rest of my life.
