WEEK 1

Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
FRIDAY | SATURDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to peace week! Feel free to mingle (and investigate, if you like) to your hearts' content! Please ensure all investigation toplevels are marked accordingly, and otherwise enjoy! If you wish to talk to The Captain or Davy Jones, look here for the former and here for the latter! ]

It's all right. I am not truly alone - even here, I have Plumeria.

[And they're both Dökkálfar. It's just. Sort of complicated.]

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-01-30 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
That is good. Although I do find it curious, that some people appear to have arrived in pairs.

[Also, here, have a muddler. Fun fact that's what the pestle is called in a bar I guess.]

For this, we will begin by muddling several kiwi slices in roughly 3/4 ounces of simple syrup. Do not crush it entirely - the goal is only to extract the juice.
dokkalfheimr: (09.)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-01-30 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
...So obtain the juice without obliterating the fruit.

[She is tiny but she could probably decimate a kiwi if she were in the right mind.]
ltcommandroid: (I've been hiding)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-01-30 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[who doesn't wanna decimate some fruit]

Yes, for the flavor! After that, you will add some ice, and two parts lemonade to one part limeade, and then shake it.

[oh ya I guess we were doing this in a shake-y glass the whole time. there's probably a word for that.

Also Data proceeds to shake this thing like it's a fucking pear wiggler, this is way too intense. Robot shaker!]

Then you will strain it into a highball glass and garnish with a kiwi slice. [I hope you're eating all this extra fruit 'cause he sure ain't]

[You do all the muddling in a mixing glass so you can see what you're doing and then you pour it into the cocktail shaker, or so says my limited cocktail experience and several hours watching How2Drink.

...also she will eat the fruit. It is the one thing onboard this godforsaken vessel that she likes.]

And what is this one called...?
ltcommandroid: (under my skin)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-01-30 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Boy we are in the wrong roles here I have never made a cocktail. Love 'em though, should probably learn. ANYWAY

Data just sort of slides his finished drink across the bar, next to the other one he made. It's too many drinks for Freyja to consume on her own, probably, but he's certainly not going to get anything out of it. Perhaps he will find someone else to give them to later.]

Green Lemonade. Although it is only partially lemonade. Are you enjoying the drinks?
dokkalfheimr: (09.)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-01-30 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That would make sense.

[That said - ]

They are good. Most of what I'm used to is prepared with the aid of magic, so doing this by hand is new. But I am enjoying both the process and the result.

[blink]

Interesting. How would you prepare drinks differently with magic?

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-01-31 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it's a matter of conjuring things and imbuing them with various properties... Sometimes they have spells imparted on them that will affect the drinker. It depends on the effect we want.

..."Simple enjoyment" is a valid effect to want to create, of course. We don't require everything to do something.
ltcommandroid: (secret secret)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-02-01 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
That does make sense.

[More sense than quite a bit of the rest of that, tbh]

Would you be willing to explain conjuring more? Do you mean to say that you can create matter from energy?
dokkalfheimr: (08.)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-02-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh- ]

Something like that. Are you familiar with magic, in your world?
ltcommandroid: (Default)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-02-01 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all. We do not have any phenomena recognized as "magic".
dokkalfheimr: (10.)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-02-01 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Huh!]

...Do you have gods, or anything else considered divine?
ltcommandroid: (Default)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-02-01 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Headtilt]

Many cultures believe in a god or gods. I do not personally. We have encountered extremely powerful entities, but I do not think that is the same thing.
dokkalfheimr: (Default)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-02-01 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
They generally are not, though extremely powerful entities are often revered as gods. I suppose I fall under that category as well; I am a goddess to the mortals, but there is no such inherent trait that makes me so. I am one with a large amount of power, and I use that power to maintain my realm, which in turn affects the humans.

Gods - or those considered to be gods - are often capable of magic, though such things are often seen by mortals as being miracles; where I'm from, mortals are likewise capable of using magic - using energy to fight, or to create things as I do - though on a far lesser scale. They are less likely to affect a large area, or people on a massive scale, than those considered gods.

[Data considers this, and nods after a moment.]

THe closest to that which I am aware of is an entity known as "Q". He is from another plane of existence, and would appear to be omnipotent within ours. His kind do not interfere often, however - and I would still not refer to their abilities as "magic".

[Like, there's clearly some science that can explain it! They just don't really understand it yet!]
dokkalfheimr: (09.)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-02-01 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Something that cannot be understood, perhaps, but not magic.

[She doesn't sound like she's judging at all, just trying to parse out what else it could be.]

If he is from another realm, as you say, then it would make sense that it does not translate particularly well. Sometimes there isn't an explanation that can be easily given, assuming the being in question is willing to offer one at all.
ltcommandroid: (domo arigato)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-02-01 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Q takes a great deal of delight in being cryptic.

[So, yeah, got it in one there Freyja]

How understood is magic? Is it just a name for a defined, quantifiable set of abilities?
dokkalfheimr: (Default)

[personal profile] dokkalfheimr 2021-02-01 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[...That is a hell of a question, Data.]

I believe so. It isn't something that can be done at random; it's a set of skills that are studied and learned, just as everything else is. Mine works...somewhat differently than what the mortals are capable of, but the principle, I believe, is the same.
ltcommandroid: (Default)

[personal profile] ltcommandroid 2021-02-02 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Perhaps the distinction is just one of vocabulary, in that case. There are many species in our galaxy with abilities that humans would likely have considered "magic" in the past.
