FOURTH TRIAL
Alright, that's quite enough time. Move along towards the trial, if you would all be so kind. You know what's coming.
[ It's routine by now - go to the vault door, get let into the elevator by Angel, head down to the trial room... it's hard not to notice the losses on the ride down by now, though. Your numbers are starting to really dwindle, even if you're often spread out enough not to notice as much normally. The trial room and its podiums, too, seem more than ready and willing to remind you of the same. The red glow of the empty spaces is constant, potentially unnerving. ]
Remember that as there are two victims to consider, up to two votes may be counted at the end of proceedings. As always, I am but a direct address away, however rude you choose to make it.
Find the party or parties responsible for the deaths of your comrades. And to those parties: Good luck.
[ The screens rise!
Welcome to your fourth trial. ]

[ She just comes out with it, pretty much the second they're all situated in the trial room. ]
There wasn't any blood. If you were thinking about doing a check, or whatever. This wasn't a split-second decision.

Aside from that, she was positioned on her back. It almost looks like her body was righted and posed, though I can't say for sure.

[Is that better or worse? Honestly, Nova doesn't know.]
She was dismembered by the sharks, though, rather than - well. Anna could tell you more about what she found, but spoiler: the missing weapons aren't so missing.

We're looking for someone who's good enough with carving - and willing to spend the time - to create the grappling hook. Someone who's also skilled enough to kill in one strike using a blade, and capable of dragging Ema out of the hallway and up the side of the shark tank. Assuming, that is, that we're looking for one person.
I feel like the skills involved knock out a lot of people immediately, so I want to know who's left.

DUCKS? HERDING CATS?!
Alright! Let's all take a step back and try looking over everything we know.
[ ...this may be because she is between Birkin and Nova arguing. Spare her. ]
So far, we're looking at a premeditated murder, since the weapons taken from the museum were done so cleanly. In terms of weapons, we're looking at an old dagger and an axe, both of which were found in an empty fish tank in the aquarium, along with a map-making tool. We can assume that tool came from the cartography room, where we found Shelley. She looked to have been killed with one blow and not moved, but there's sign of a struggle, especially since Zelos-David fell. ...We can assume either that happened before Shelley died, or someone placed her on some of the marble after the fact, because she was laying on some of the dust.
There's a wood-carved grappling hook leading up to the boat. We haven't figured out if this was the killer or...Ema, keeping watch, but we can start to rule the second one out since she wasn't...really good at carving, unless someone wants to cop to giving it to her.
With Ema... [ A sigh. ] There was blood splatter in the tunnel between the museum and the aquarium. There seems to have been a trail leading to the aquarium, one that the killer mopped up. We were able to tell with the luminol. Ema herself was...dismembered in the shark tank. Someone took the fish for the sharks to eat, so they would go after her.
[ A pause. ]
We're operating under the assumption that there's one killer, due to the proximity of the crime scenes. We're also operating under the fact that something about Ema's body was...incriminating in some way to the killer, or...that the crime scene was, which is why they tried to clean it up.
Therion fits a lot of the criteria, but he also wouldn't incriminate himself, which...is what using the luminol points to.
So. With all that in mind, what is it we're missing?
[ What angles haven't they examined? ]

Excuse me! There is something we are missing. While someone's behavior is suspicious let us look at the evidence once more. What about the axe?
We have not established anything about it.
[She winces, though. That was a really hard blow.]

If you think you've all solved the mystery, [dundun. dundun.] then maybe you should tell me what happened.
[Care to go for a swim?]

You waited in the boat for Shelley and ambushed her. Maybe not well enough, because that statue fell over. Ema, for whatever reason, came across the scene. You chased her down and stabbed her with the map-maker. You've been in...horrible conditions, haven't you? Of course you would know just where to stab someone.

EXECUTION - TELL 'EM I'M GOING FISHING (cw: sharks) - 1/2
[ The lights crash off and the screens lower, fading in on… well, really obviously ADRed-in seagull noises, and a shot of the sea. There’s a fairly modern fishing boat, and on the side of it Nova stands on an honest-to-god plank, a blonde woman standing between her and the deck of the fishing boat. They exchange some words, but they’re eaten up by the sea.
The sea, now that the camera is looking at it, seems to be full of sharks. Just… to an absolutely nonsense degree. Nova doesn’t seem too shocked, so maybe it’s just a matter of different standards. But there’s chum already in the water, and what almost looks like a maelstrom of sharks has gathered, swimming in circles around the boat.
The blonde woman, clearly smug, steps forward and takes off one of her gloves. The camera cuts away for just a moment so you don’t have to see how on earth the buzzsaw hand it pans back to unfolded from under there. It’s better, the not knowing.
She slashes down, cutting the plank off the boat in one strike. Nova falls down into the waters below, and the sharks swarm. It’s quick and simple, and mercifully offscreen... ]
2/2
Rrgh, damn it! Someone, check the water! If we... have a “ghost” in there, I swear to you-
[ Oh, The Professor does not sound happy, his voice echoing over the scene on the screens. There’s a long few moments of Nova standing on the deck, decidedly not dead but also unsure what to do, before the Professor speaks up again. ]
Whatever! Agent Night Owl, time to play executioner.
[ The door into the fishing boat itself swings open, and… a woman you don’t recognize steps out, a long sword held in one hand. Her expression is grim, focused.
Nova seems unconcerned, until the woman rushes forward with the sword in hand. Nova swings with the chainsaw, confident that, you know, Chainsaw Beats Sword, but the mystery woman is more than casually skilled with the blade. Parrying the chainsaw away on the side without hitting the business edge, the sword finds its mark in Nova’s gut.
The camera pans up towards the sky, but it’s clear that there’s no way this ended any other way - Nova is dead.
The lights aren’t even fully up before The Professor cuts in. ]
Leave. Now. Your work here is done.
