Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

According to the rules he's slapped together, if we wanna get off this cruise, someone's gonna have to kill someone and get away with it.

Maybe he's a murder mystery buff. Or maybe he wants the victor to join his crew.

How many murder mysteries do you know that start with all the participants being immolated? Not much of a whodunit, really.

... Unless there were never any flamethrowers. Or we were never meant to die in the theater, at least — because this is the real blood ritual, and he's been playing the fool this whole time! Oh! He just wants us to think he's an incompetent loser who outsources his sacrifices and has a stupid voice!

So why go through that whole routine, then? Wouldn't it be easier just to start with the "kill each other" thing from the get go?

That's the question, isn't it?

But I have the brilliant solution to our little conundrum--just don't go on a murder spree, and everything will be fine.

[A pause.]

As fine as being stuck on a ship in the Bermuda Triangle, I mean.

[ Okay, that makes her break out into some giggles. ]

It's cute that you think just saying that is actually going to work.

[Constantine gives Alice a dry grin.]

Oh, I know it's not gonna work. The man's gonna get desperate and start threatening us if we don't do anything, I guarantee it.

Or he offs us all once this scheme fails him too. Just saying.

My money is on someone snapping before the end of the week, personally.

Hmm. If only we had something to wager besides popcorn shrimp.

Darlings, can we not? I think we should be working toward finding a way out of this that doesn't involve losing anyone to that awful man's demands.

Okay, so my next bet is on this guy going first.

Sure, but what happens when someone inevitably takes them up on their offer? You can't actually trust anyone here enough to say for sure that they won't, right?

No one's murdering anyone on my watch.

Except maybe if we actually get a shot at the captain, I might be willing to make an exception for him.

Just make sure it's the captain first! You never know. And I mean, you probably shouldn't kill him right off...

[She seems conflicted about this!! But also she's talking about murder & crime & punishment with a robot hedgehog, this seems to take precedence over any feelings of maybe less stabbity.]

Maybe it's to try to divide us while he works on something else. If we're too busy killing each other, we can't fight the Captain.

[The part about staying here forever just doesn't fit because, well, nobody has enough free time or patience to see a bunch of random people putz around in a cruise ship for years. There's got to be a time limit of some sort, so keeping everyone busy with a murdergame while he works on something else isn't too much of a stretch.

Well, then we're facing off against a sadistic mastermind instead of some moron with a defective ship. Plans might be retailored in a way he doesn't want.

I thought it was obvious he isn't the final boss.

The what.

The actual person behind this. The Captain's just a miniboss.

[magycks]

Oh. Well, until we meet the... Admiral, or whoever, who cares?

[queceracera]

We might be able to get the Captain on our side if we can turn him against whoever's really behind this.

[Seduce! The! Captain!]

... or we could do that with Jones, who we can actually see.

I mean, that's kind of what I thought, honestly? It didn't make any sense to go to the trouble of making these profiles and getting us all to learn about each other if he was really intending to just kill us right off the bat. He didn't really answer when I asked about that, either.

If that's the case he really needs to get into show business.
