Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

There's nothing alcohol-bassd back here, if your drinks involve that. From what I understand, this is tragic.

Humans are extremely fond of alcohol and alcohol substitutes.

But they have also invented a number of "mocktails", which are similar to alcoholic beverages, but non-alcoholic. I know how to make several.

...I believe I would quite like to learn, then. It seems like useful knowledge to have when the mortals begin to be depressed with the selections.

It is important to keep up morale on a ship, even at the best of times. I will start with some traditional "summer fun" drinks.

[Since we're on a cruise ship? Sure! Let's see...he'll start fishing out some fruit juices.]

Am I to understand that you are not mortal?

I am not. I am an android - a very advanced machine. [He tilts his head.] I could be said to be immortal, in that I will not age and die as a human does, but I can be killed.

Many of these drinks are very simple, since they have no alcoholic component. We will begin with a sweet sunrise. First, you will fill a glass with ice, and then most of the way with orange juice. The rest of the volume will be filled with grenadine, which you may add to taste.

[He'll be doing that stuff as he speaks, and offering her the materials as well so that she can follow along. It's an effective way of learning, in his experience.]

Before serving, it is garnished with a slice of orange. [Which he'll slice neatly and efficiently, like a hot knife through butter.] Garnishes are particularly important. People find them "fun".

They are, although they are also sometimes consumed.

I find myself the only one of my specific kind left. It is a strange position to be in.

That is good. Although I do find it curious, that some people appear to have arrived in pairs.

[Also, here, have a muddler. Fun fact that's what the pestle is called in a bar I guess.]

For this, we will begin by muddling several kiwi slices in roughly 3/4 ounces of simple syrup. Do not crush it entirely - the goal is only to extract the juice.

...So obtain the juice without obliterating the fruit.

[She is tiny but she could probably decimate a kiwi if she were in the right mind.]

Yes, for the flavor! After that, you will add some ice, and two parts lemonade to one part limeade, and then shake it.

[oh ya I guess we were doing this in a shake-y glass the whole time. there's probably a word for that.

Also Data proceeds to shake this thing like it's a fucking pear wiggler, this is way too intense. Robot shaker!]

Then you will strain it into a highball glass and garnish with a kiwi slice. [I hope you're eating all this extra fruit 'cause he sure ain't]

[You do all the muddling in a mixing glass so you can see what you're doing and then you pour it into the cocktail shaker, or so says my limited cocktail experience and several hours watching How2Drink.

Data just sort of slides his finished drink across the bar, next to the other one he made. It's too many drinks for Freyja to consume on her own, probably, but he's certainly not going to get anything out of it. Perhaps he will find someone else to give them to later.]

Green Lemonade. Although it is only partially lemonade. Are you enjoying the drinks?

They are good. Most of what I'm used to is prepared with the aid of magic, so doing this by hand is new. But I am enjoying both the process and the result.

Interesting. How would you prepare drinks differently with magic?

Sometimes it's a matter of conjuring things and imbuing them with various properties... Sometimes they have spells imparted on them that will affect the drinker. It depends on the effect we want.

..."Simple enjoyment" is a valid effect to want to create, of course. We don't require everything to do something.

Would you be willing to explain conjuring more? Do you mean to say that you can create matter from energy?

Not at all. We do not have any phenomena recognized as "magic".

Many cultures believe in a god or gods. I do not personally. We have encountered extremely powerful entities, but I do not think that is the same thing.
