SECOND TRIAL
[ After sufficient time has passed, and you're all as ready to avenge dear Obi as you've ever been, Mayor Fontaine speaks. ]
Alright, that oughta do it. Pack up the evidence and head to the bathyspheres, same as last week.
[ There's yet again a line of spherical submersibles back there, ready to take off as the citizens of New Rapture climb aboard one or two at a time. And one at a time the bathyspheres descend into the abyss below New Rapture, deeper and deeper, once again to the dome on the seafloor, lit all around by bio-luminescent... slugs, of some kind? They're a little closer today.
The ring of podiums still sits in the center, just like last week. Two more podiums are going to stand empty. Two more dead. By the end of the day, best case scenario? It'll be three.
The projector clicks on. Mayor Fontaine is as here as he's gonna be. ]
You all know why you're here. Night Knight is dead. And I know plenty of you liked him alright, so don't let him down, hm? Or do. I'm here if you have questions.
[ Welcome to your second trial. ]

body report
He takes a moment to close his eyes and breathe deeply before he speaks; as before, he's perhaps surprisingly clinical about all of it.]
Obi was found in the pool this morning. I investigated the...him; Floyd was in the room with me at the time, though he was investigating elsewhere.
It seems that Obi was stabbed multiple times. Three times in the torso area, around here - [and again, he gestures, using his own body to indicate where the wounds were; all clustered around the front of the body, in areas that likely wouldn't be immediately fatal but are still in a general bad area to be stabbed] - and once on the left side, in an area that was likely to puncture a lung. [Another gesture; left side of the body, a bit higher and indeed in an area likely to take out a lung.] The latter wound struck him at a different angle to the others - the cluster on the torso seemed to be from above, while the one on the left side seemed to come up from below, from a lower vantage point. The cluster on the torso are also where a good amount of the blood seems to have come from.
All of the wounds are consistent with one another - they seem to have come from the same weapon judging from width, and they were caused by a blade with a non-serrated edge.
[Almost there.]
Obi also had bruises and cuts on the outside of his arms, consistent with defensive wounds. And, ah... For some reason there was a rope from the department store tied around his foot? I don't understand why.
Re: body report
Half of him wants to wash the sensation of Obi's body off in a cold shower. The other hesitates, since that was the last of the gentle young man, after all.]
So... The rope.
D'you think it coulda been used to hold him in place, somewhere? It seems like he struggled real hard.

Obi had a drive to protect others. He may have beeen patrolling to search for any signs of danger that could befall us all.
[Aiba erases the body explanation image and then displays a video: Obi doing a backflip successfully, plastic lightsaber in hand]
He had quite the agility, and given his job as a bodyguard and his skill in the dark -- the latter according to him -- I suspect this was either a surprise attack or someone with equal if not more ability in a physical fight. I don't mean just to stab him, but also to subdue with a rope or with anything else that may be involved.

Maybe they're a bit quiet, at first, but Mafuyu does speak up after a bit.]
We went to the clinic before and it was all messed up. Things had been tossed around and some supplies were missing. Specifically, bandages, anesthetic... and a blood bag, as well. Mielle and I were wondering if maybe... someone tried to help Obi-san?
Ah, and also... I noticed there was some blood on one of the cots. Not a lot, but... I don't think that was there before.

At least he can keep an eye on Jonathan since his podium's still right next to his. That, and he brought along one of those "social distancing devices" from the regain machine... Just in case there's any trouble.
The Undertaker has that thing tucked under one arm, pointy side up, and leans on his podium. ]
Well! It must be pretty embarrassing for our killer to have fallen for such a foolish temptation! If they were tempted by the motive, that is.

So I found a couple things near the garden... There was a bloody, torn white shirt with an empty blood bag hidin' underneath it. It looks like the blood bag was poked a bunch.
Closer to the hotel, I spotted a knife and a scrap of black fabric. Both of 'em had dried blood on 'em.

My deepest apologies, but this is hardly getting us anywhere. Can we simply review the evidence at hand so we can figure out what happened last night. I am sure we all want to find out who killed our Obi.

Rossiu mentioned earlier something about that shirt that could not fit individuals of a certain height. Those he listed who did not fit were in the 5'7 area or higher.
Shouldn't we consider those under that range as our 'suspects'?

[Dandy himself is just going to remove his red undershirt to reveal his leanly muscular swimmer's body. He clearly spends most of his time running, but doesn't look too heavy.
And is also entirely uninjured.]

CONFESSIONS OF THE QUEEN OF SHARDS
With all the gravitas of a performer born for the stage she presents herself in all her cutesy glory with all the pleasantries completely dropped and nothing but a sneer remaining.]
Well, there we have it.
I killed Obi. AMA, right?
I mean, you might as well or whatever, like I can go ahead and give you my tragic backstory or my darkest secrets that would cause me to do something oh so horrible. I'll say this much, I probably went for the wrong target and that's on me. You live and you learn. Or you die and you don't, I guess.
Just don't ask for an apology because you're not getting one. I already sacrificed my best fucking friend to get what I want. Trust me when I say that none of you mean anything to me.

EXECUTION - (Un)Lucky Penny
Correct on all counts. Goodbye, Flowercrown. Don’t mean much, but I was rooting for ya.
[ There’s a familiar sensation to anyone near her that would have been recognizable to anyone who touched Hodaka last week - moving air and metal. Then just like that, when the lights of the projection come on? Penelope Everpetal is no longer among your number.
The projectors all show the same thing - a bare, wooden bedroom, emptied of anything that makes it a bedroom. No furniture, no posters, not even holes in the walls where anything might have been hung. Just a few boxes around of the sort of things a teenage girl might keep around. A floor-length mirror, installed directly into the wall, reflects the rest of the space in the background.
In the middle of the room, arms crossed, stands Penelope Everpetal. There’s a crown on her head, cheap and plastic, but otherwise she looks just as she did a moment ago in the trial room. She regards the surroundings with about the same level of fear she might regard an ant or a large bug.
At the other end of the room, a door opens. In walks another of the first motive’s hostages, if you can call her that. After all, whatever Hodaka faced last week certainly wasn’t his hostage. She gazes at Penelope, stare cold and even.
The sound isn’t coming through, it seems, so it’s not clear exactly what Penelope has to say. The roll of her eyes, however, gets the point across.
The other girl smiles, barely. Calls Penelope something that she takes a moment of visible offense to. Takes a step forward.
Penelope takes a step back.
A step from the girl. Her hand reaches out.
Penelope braces for impact. The inevitable conclusion of this cheap pageant. A stab, or a shot, or a crossbow bolt, or something.
Instead, the other girl wraps a hand around Penelope’s waist. Takes her other hand in hers.
A step forward.
A step back.
A dance, as befits the prom queen. Though it’s clear Penelope Everpetal isn’t used to her dance partner leading. She goes with it, eyes wide. She knows this isn’t real. Last week proved that much. Maybe that’s where the hurt in her gaze comes from.
As the audience to this quiet spectacle, the other citizens of New Rapture have the benefit of seeing long before Penelope does what’s wrong in the room. When Penelope appears in the mirror, it’s not the same girl you’ve come to… well, perhaps “know” isn’t the right word. Experience? It’s the same body, the same face, certainly, but the teeth and claws and crown of broken glass are new.
Penelope also doesn’t see, until it’s too late, when her reflection stops matching her movements.
A step forward.
A step back.
A step forward.
When Penelope’s reflection reaches clawed hands past the glass, she’s too close to run. She’s a sorceress, after all. Not a fighter, not a barbarian. She’s dragged, in a moment of horrible familiarity, into the glass, bleeding from ribbon-like cuts.
As she’s torn away by her new dance partner, she reaches out to the other girl. Cries out, in a moment of particularly human vulnerability. But this isn’t real. There’s no movement. And either way… no mercy for the wicked, right?
There’s enough time to see that, whatever the thing in her reflection was, Penelope Everpetal is dead, before the mirror shatters, sending fragments of glass, a plastic tiara, and a fair splash of blood into the room.
The other girl simply walks over to start cleaning up this last trace of Penelope Everpetal, Aguefort Academy Prom Queen, before the feed cuts. ]
And there it is. That’s another one solved. Good job, gang. Back up to your own devices, now.
[ The bathyspheres unlock behind you! You’re all free to go. ]
