WEEK 1
Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...
The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Investigation
It's something Birkin knows is objectively a good thing – there's a reason "may you live in interesting times" is a curse, he knows, he knows – but that doesn't mean he has to like it; whether you're here to kill or not hardly matters, because either way you'd think that they'd at least be provided with slightly more worthwhile toys.
But that doesn't mean he's completely unable to entertain himself; he spends a fair amount of time in the art gallery today, either because he's trying very hard to edify his soul or he's contemplating something that is probably not the greatest idea in the world. Maybe both. Either way, there's going to be an investigation happening in here if no one minds, at some point or another.
Otherwise...well, one can't spend all of one's time being a Fucking Mistake with priceless pieces of art(?), and when he's not doing anything he's doing in there he can be found a few places; since he's apparently the only one of y'all with any fucking taste, he'll have the jazz going in the lounge while he's in there – he's got a couple of books from the library with him (nothing too conspicuous, though he's got a few of those criminal method...things with him just for the sake of seeing what on earth is in them) and he's largely ignoring the nature slideshow, though he's morbidly curious about who's going to try to beat up the television today, seeing as we all apparently just fucking hate screens in here.
Otherwise, he can be found later in the evening in the laundry room of all goddamn places; he's jumped up to sit on top of one of the unused machines, and he's got some paper and pens out with him, and he looks like he's just...working on notes in here. Which is kind of a weird place to be working on them, if we're honest, and he's also in his goddamn mid-thirties and chilling on top of the machinery like a teenager while he does it, but you know what, he's not judging your lifestyles.]

They've got a library for that, you do realize.
no subject
[Just saying.]
Either way, you have my deepest apologies for existing in public.
no subject
[says the person who chucked a book across the library yesterday after failing to set it on fire.]
At least you know how to use the machines, instead of ducking and covering because they make noise.
no subject
Don't worry, I taught Aela how to use them last night, so hopefully she won't try to beat them up because they deigned to beep at her when they're done.

Well, okay, she's actually kind of familiar with the TV given what Birkin told her about the screens, so she's not going to try to put her fist through the TV screen immediately, though she is going to look at this warily.]
Is this another of those screens? Can the Professor appear on this one as well?
[She's just... watching this slideshow like she's not sure if this is fascinating or witchcraft, and the less said about the jazz music, the better.]
no subject
He'll actually look over at the screen himself before shrugging a not. Seeing as it is not displaying the Professor's symbol and is in fact frozen on a lovely frame of the Everglades at the moment, he's not too concerned.]
If he can, he certainly isn't at the moment. It's just the music and the pictures.
no subject
[But that's fine. Anyway, she's just going to take a chair nearby and watch the slideshow.]

Ugh. This again?
[ As far as she sees it, Birkin might as well not exist! There are two characters in this thread: her, and Smooth Jazz. Without a single look in his direction, perhaps without even noticing him, she rounds on the TV, clearly preparing to turn it off. The amount of force involved in turning it off is anyone's guess at the moment. ]
no subject
...As much as I'd like to see you fight the television for the crime of existing, I don't know how much good that'll do.
[He sounds amused, at least.]
no subject
Wasn't planning on it. [ Oh, yeah, definitely. ] You activated it, then? You know it doesn't do anything else if you wait.
no subject
[So yeah. For what it's worth, he doesn't seem put-off by her, despite looking like the sort that's probably flimsy enough to die if she looks at him funny.]
Not fond of the music, I take it?
no subject
[ But she hasn't put her fist through the screen yet, so that's? Progress? ]
It's irritating. If you are, you're the first I've seen.

...Well, hi there. Lif just kind of blinks once, twice, before just kind of entering the room and looking over to Birkin.]
Found anything interesting out, or is this just a quiet place to write?
no subject
It's one of those places people don't usually go unless they have to, and even then they usually just set things up and leave for a while. It's a good place to do things if you don't mind the machines.
[So yeah, just a quiet place to write, pretty much.]
How has this place been treating you?
no subject
I suppose I can understand that. It's a sensible place for some privacy, outside of the rooms we've been given.
[Which...honestly, he'd rather be anywhere but, really, but that's neither here nor there. The question gets Lif to focus back on Birkin.]
Better than I've been expecting, really. The library has quite a bit of fascinating material; I've mostly been passing the time in there and reading all of the offerings on display. It's something I haven't had the opportunity to do in a long time.
no subject
I imagine the nature of the world itself is giving you a lot to catch up on. You don't seem exactly like you're from the same time as a few of us.
