FINAL INVESTIGATION

Good morning, passengers. You've made landfall.

The ship arrives at the shore of the island early in the morning, suddenly grinding to a halt for the first time in weeks. A ramp is lowered directly onto the beach, and The Captain almost immediately hops down it, laughing the whole while as he does. Jones stands on the ship, not following, and The Captain addresses you:

"Don't take too long! We have business in that lighthouse, you and I."

Without another word, The Captain heads towards a path on the beach that heads lighthouse-ward, but not before turning back again.

"And Jones! Head to your ship and ready the crew for when this is over."

Jones seems... not quite content to do this, whatever it is, but after a minute or so for any last conversation, he vanishes into a wall.

With both of your captors no longer on board, the ship is quiet. Its engines are stalled, the journey over. If you wish to survive the day, you're going to have to go onto that island and face The Captain once and for all.

But first... there are some areas you definitely haven't explored yet! If you're going to go in with all the information you need, might be time to take advantage of this situation...

It's a nice little bedroom - when I say nice, I do mean Really Fancy. A beautiful four-post bed, sheets that are like ten times as soft as any of yours...

Looks like there's a writing desk and some stuff over by the window on some tables, if you want a couple convenient places for investigators to investigate! ]

Anyway, Data's attention is drawn to the writing desk, obviously! What's going on here?]

[ What, do you think Handsome Jack wouldn't build himself a place like this? Look at him.

There's a couple papers on the desk and a bulletin board above it, for starters? ]

[Okay, the bulletin board seems a lot more in-your-face, so let's start there? What's on this thing?]

[ Looks like a few blueprints for various robots! ]

Anything important that our resident robotics expert can glean from these?]

[ Sure! You've seen both kinds of robots here, after all.

One is for those flying maintenance robots - they're referred to as surveyors, and seem equipped for, well, maintenance!

The other is for a complex humanoid animatronic - fun fact, one of the components is a shell for the hands that matches the hand Constantine found all those weeks ago. ]

[Well depending on how things will have gone yesterday, this may be incredibly relevant to Data's interests! Actually, he's probably gonna take it either way. But since we're on this and not #FreeJimmy2021 right now, let's just move right along for the moment!

Anything else notable about the blueprints, or is it desk time?]

[ It's desk time!

Looks like some more blueprints, this time for the SS Swift herself! ]

[Hm! Interesting! This is slightly less Data's forte than the whole robot thing, being a water ship, but at least he knows how to read blueprints generally. Anything of note here?]

[ There is one thing! On one section, near the front of the ship in the lower right, there's a room labelled TOP SECRET, ALSO SUPER DANGEROUS- DO NOT DISTURB. ]

[Of course it'd be fancy. Only the best for Jack, probably]

I...think I'll take a look over there...

[To the tables, yup. So! What's the nature of this stuff over here?]

[ Well the first thing to notice, unfortunately, is some old dirty dishes by the bedside table - it's not nearly unbearable, but definitely unpleasant - no sign anyone's been in here recently for sure. ]

[Hmmm...since Jack died a week and half ago this may be from back then. Alright then. Does that mean the bed has been untouched as well? Perhaps that's a good sign, an indication finding stuff may be easier than usual.

For now, he probably see what else is there to be noticed other than dirty dishes]

[ Yup!

Well, there's the weird robot thing next to the table, first off - that's probably the most obvious thing. ]

[Great! Bed is untouched, there are empty plates...probably means the ghost Captain hasn't entered here to get rid of stuff. This is promising!

The weird robot thing, for example, may be an important thing. Time to handle potentially delicate stuff because clearly Filbo is the grumpus for the job -- he totally isn't. Can he grab it to take a look?]

[ He can try, but uh... the gun might dissuade him from messing with it too much? ]

[Definitely not the grumpus for the job.

Well! Better be careful with this or else there'll be a death in the middle of this investigation log and that'd be a bummer. So! Any idea about this robot thing's function -- if shooting people isn't all it's for?]

[ It doesn't seem set up to shoot people, actually! It's holding a gun, pointed at an empty wire stand on the table nearby. ]

[Oh, great! That's a relief.

So! What's up with this wire stand? How big is it? Any signs of what may have been on it at some point?]

[ It's shaped in a very distinct way, actually! It looks meant to hold, uh...

... Oh I hate to have to ask this question, but hey Filbo, do you know what a human heart is shaped like? ]

[Probably not. Well, may as well take a polaroid photo of this stand and take it to the trial so someone else tells him he was in the vicinity of something that'd hold a human heart, that'll be a hoot]
